Original author’s interpretation summary

The author chiefly uses the host-position line, Mao Wood in the Officials/Ghosts category matching the month reference and receiving generation from the Hai day. Clashes between the three corresponding outer-trigram branches are interpreted as movement back and forth between posts. The book uses this case to show that fanyin must not be judged apart from the Yongshen line’s condition.

Outcome reported in the book

The text says the person was promoted from Jiangxi to Shandong that month, then returned to a Jiangxi post within a year. Locations and appointments are the author’s retrospective account, not independently researched historical facts established by the site.

Site review boundaries

  1. Lines five and six are old yin. Recalculation changes Lin to Zhongfu, matching the text.
  2. Outer-trigram Chou, Hai and You change to Wei, Si and Mao; all three matching-position pairs clash. The site marks outer-trigram branch fanyin.
  3. The case shows how the author combines conditions. It cannot prove that fanyin necessarily corresponds to movement back and forth between posts.

Reading boundaries

Reported outcomes represent the original author’s account, not independent historical verification. This case is not an automatic interpretation template for a user’s present result.

Topic tags identify structures involved in this case, not divinatory efficacy verified by the site.

Working translation of the site’s Chinese editorial case review, not a translation of the classical source. Native-language review is pending; original source names and locators remain in Chinese.

Fanyin

Limited implementation

Fanyin is reported separately for inner and outer trigrams at two levels: opposite trigram positions and clashes between branches at matching line positions. Zengshan Buyi provides changing-line cases; Yilin Buyi also distinguishes trigram and line forms, but their classification boundaries are not entirely identical.

The site calculates this only when original changing lines and a resulting hexagram are available. A hexagram name or static direction alone cannot generate fanyin.

Month and day branches

Calendrical structure implementation

The month reference uses the branch of the solar-term month; the day reference uses the day branch for the selected time-zone date. Zengshan Buyi and Yilin Buyi both use these references in subsequent discussions of strength, generation, control, clashes and combinations. The site calculates them with its calendar engine and cross-checks the month and day recorded in each case.

Month and day are chart references, not independent fortune judgments. A classical case without a year cannot identify a unique Gregorian date.
